Job Summary
Join a mission-driven team dedicated to expanding access to higher education. The Student Success Outreach Specialist supports high school students in Lac du Flambeau—particularly first-generation and low-income students—on their path to college through relationship-building, academic guidance, and consistent support.

In this role, you will collaborate with ITA instructors, campus partners, and Lac du Flambeau community partners to deliver engaging, site-based programming, provide personalized advising, and help students prepare for postsecondary success. This position is ideal for someone committed to educational equity who enjoys working with young people in a collaborative, student-centered environment. Successful candidates will be able to effectively communicate in both small and large group settings, be detail oriented with strong organizational skills, and demonstrate the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and executing program events and activities

Managing site logistics and facility coordination

Overseeing technology and equipment distribution

Tracking student progress, engagement, and attendance

Managing supplies and inventory

Serving as the primary point of contact for site communication

The candidate selected for this position may perform a combination of on-site and remote work subject to an approved flexible work arrangement (FWA), which is reviewed and approved annually. Remote work requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a university provided computer. Per University policy, transportation between home and assigned work location is not payable/reimbursable and will be at the expense of the employee.

This position requires a flexible schedule with job responsibilities taking place outside the standard work week as well as occasional evening and weekend hours. The Student Success Outreach Specialist will need reliable transportation to frequently travel between local high schools in the Lac du Flambeau community and will have to occasionally travel to Madison.

Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the pre-college program

Provides support in identifying appropriate fields of study, career options, or programs and refers students to appropriate resources

Serves as a main point of contact to students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements

Maintains detailed records of student progress and other needed data

Schedules, secures, and communicates logistics and resources in support of a pre-college program

Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement

Researches, develops, and facilitates pre-college program content and materials

Delivers pre-college program content and materials to community members

Division of Information Technology, Academic Technology, Information Technology Academy (ITA)

Academic Technology, part of UW-Madison's Division of Information Technology (DoIT), provides innovative and sustainable technology services that support teaching, learning, research, and outreach throughout the university community.

Information Technology Academy (ITA) is a pre-college program that prepares low-income and first generation students for higher education. Originally launched in Madison, ITA expanded in 2013 to reach more Native American and rural students through ITA Oneida and ITA Lac du Flambeau. Since its inception, 96% of ITA graduates have been accepted to institutions of higher education, demonstrating the program's success in preparing students for post-secondary opportunities.

ITA provides students with a structured, multi-year experience designed to build technical and academic skills while fostering personal growth and confidence.

Compensation
Starting salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Well qualified applicants can expect to earn between $45,500 - $65,000, with final salary based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications

Professional experience working with high school-aged students in advising, mentoring, education, or outreach programs

Experience planning and coordinating events or programs, including the logistics, scheduling, and implementation of events

Experience tracking and maintaining records and data

Experience working with Tribal communities or Indigenous populations, in community-based or educational programs

Preferred Qualifications
In addition to required qualifications, the most qualified candidates may also have the following preferred qualifications:

Experience working with first-generation and/or low-income student populations in a college access, pre-college, or youth development setting

A person with strong connections within the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin community is preferred

Education
Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field - preferred minimum
