Overview
United Rentals — Reliable Onsite Services (ROS) division provides complete portable toilet rental solutions for temporary, long-term and seasonal requests with high quality. As a Human Resources Generalist for ROS, you will perform HR generalist functions in support of the field HR Director and provide expertise in employee relations, recruiting, training, employment practices, performance management, compensation and legal compliance. You will work collaboratively under the direction of the HR Director to deliver programs that foster HR excellence and continuous improvement.
This role will have a strong focus on employee relations including coaching leadership through employee issues and interacting with a large hourly workforce. Similar industry experience with multi-state locations and bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred. Location near a major airport on the West Coast is acceptable.
What you'll do
Proactively work with employees and managers to address workplace issues/concerns
Review and make recommendations on performance issues, FMLA, and workers' compensation
Partner with managers by providing guidance and support to achieve department goals
Promote employee engagement surveys and guide management in reviewing results and developing action plans
Promote involvement and activities in support of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
Work with the HR Director on leadership and succession planning initiatives and other training and development initiatives
Deliver HR-related content to managers and employees (performance management, career development, new HR programs, etc.)
Support field HR Director in facilitating the annual performance and compensation process
Provide guidance to managers, with corporate compensation, on merit and bonus recommendations
Support field recruiters and HR managers by providing tools/resources to increase the applicant pool
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor's degree required; Human Resources Management or related field preferred
PHR certification or SHRM-CP completion preferred
2–4 years of broad HR representative/generalist experience in all facets of HR with strong background in employee relations and employment practices
Proficient in workplace investigations and able to work in a confidential and discreet manner
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to all levels within the organization
Technical HR knowledge – EEO/AA, FMLA, FLSA, OSHA, ADA, and federal/local laws
Strong working knowledge of positive employee relations and disciplinary processes
Excellent assessment and interviewing skills
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills; ability to collaborate and lead on projects
Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and HRIS/payroll systems (Workday preferred)
50% to 60% travel
including air travel, multi-night stays and often on short notice
Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Can be based near a major airport on the West Coast
