Position Overview
The Dole Institute of Politics hosts a variety of programs during the academic year, such as political discussions, interview sessions, and roundtable discussions. The Dole Institute of Politics’ Student Advisory Board (SAB) is a way for dedicated students to get involved and volunteer their time and energy, participating in volunteer, educational, and social events as well as monthly meetings.
We are currently hiring one Student Podcast Coordinator to lead the production and hosting of the “From the Balcony” podcast, which engages guests in candid conversations on public policy.
Job Description
Hours: 7–12 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, including daytime office hours, meetings, and evening events.
Responsibilities
Program Development and Execution (50%)
Brainstorm guest topics and speakers, and work with the Director and Director of Programs and Student Affairs to approve podcast topics and guests.
Formally invite podcast guests and send them information on how to prepare for the interview.
Research topics and draft interview questions.
Coordinate podcast logistics, such as setting up the microphone and other equipment.
Arrange a location to film the podcast in the Dole Institute building.
Outreach and Communications (25%)
Attend 1 SAB recruitment event and 4 SAB meetings each semester and promote the podcast.
Edit short video clips of the podcast and work with the student marketing intern in promoting the series on social media. Encourage guest speakers to share on their platforms.
Respond to all work‑related emails in a timely manner, including guest speaker correspondence.
Administrative Responsibilities (25%)
Attend the weekly student marketing meetings and weekly meetings with the Director and Director of Programs and Student Affairs.
Provide administrative support in the Dole Institute office, including answering the phone, greeting visitors, and assisting with special projects as assigned by staff.
Assist with general event set‑up and tear‑down, including moving chairs, tables, and other furniture at evening events, usually Tuesday‑Thursday evenings.
Required Qualifications
Served at least one semester and be a member in good standing on the Dole Institute Student Advisory Board as evidenced by application materials.
Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook programs as evidenced by application materials.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
Past experience with video editing (Riverside or similar platforms) as evidenced by application materials.
Past participation in Dole Institute events or programs as evidenced by application materials.
Minimum of 15 months remaining as a student at KU as evidenced by application materials.
Previous experience with interviewing guests for coursework or other online mediums as evidenced by application materials.
Eligible for federal work study.
Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.
It's required to be a current, active SAB member to apply for this position.
Employment Conditions
Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
Flexible availability Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some availability Tuesday‑Thursday evenings to work at Dole Institute programs.
Compensation and Start Date
Advertised salary range: $11.50 per hour. Anticipated start date: Monday, April 27, 2026.
