Software Intern

As a Software Developer Intern on Bio‑Rad’s Life Science Group (LSG) Cloud team, the candidate will spend their day building and refining an LLM‑powered conversational interface that helps scientists interact with complex experimental data using natural language. They will collaborate closely with software engineers, AI specialists, and scientists to design intuitive user experiences, integrate agentic AI tools, and connect frontend components to cloud‑based backend services. The intern will participate in agile ceremonies, contribute code in a modern CI/CD environment, and gain hands‑on experience translating cutting‑edge AI research into production‑grade software that supports real‑world scientific workflows.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Design, develop, and integrate a functional LLM‑powered conversational interface within the LSG‑Cloud portal to enable natural‑language interaction with scientific data.

Build and refine agentic tools using the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to allow AI agents to securely communicate with BR.io and qPCR data services.

Implement responsive, user‑friendly conversational UI components using React and the Bio‑Rad Design System, including streaming message bubbles and tool‑result attachments.

Collaborate across the full stack to support authentication, tool routing, and backend service integration using cloud‑based identity and API architectures.

Partner with scientists and engineers to interpret and visualize complex data types such as qPCR results and electrophoresis gel images, ensuring solutions align with real laboratory workflows.

What You Bring

Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at an accredited university in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

Hands‑on experience with TypeScript and React for building modern, user‑focused frontend applications.

Working knowledge of large language models (LLMs), including prompt engineering and agentic AI patterns.

Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and gateway‑driven architectures; exposure to backend development using Python or Node.js preferred.

Familiarity with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and identity or authentication providers such as Azure Active Directory or AWS Cognito is a plus.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross‑functional, agile teams.

Analytical problem solver with curiosity and adaptability to quickly learn and apply AI solutions within complex scientific workflows, including data preparation, experimentation, and analysis.

Minimum 3.0 GPA.

Rising juniors, seniors, and master’s students.

Commitment to a full‑time 40‑hour week for 9 weeks from June 15 to August 14, 2026.

Location
This position must be based in Hercules, California and requires the employee to be located within commuting distance of the office.

Compensation
The hourly range for this position is $25 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
