Position Overview
We are searching for an experienced, detail-oriented, and customer-service focused IT Support Specialist to join our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Tools Team at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. The PLM CAD Tools Team collaborates with ARL Research Offices to support research and engineering data via Siemens Teamcenter and a suite of engineering design tools.

Work Arrangement
Approval of remote and hybrid work is not guaranteed regardless of work location. The position is fully on‑site in State College, PA, but hybrid options may be available depending on research needs.

Responsibilities

Provide technical support to users for CAD software packages and Siemens Teamcenter PLM.

Diagnose, research, and resolve user issues promptly through established protocols, robust communication, and troubleshooting; escalated as necessary.

Participate in maintenance, implementation, troubleshooting, and support for applications and servers.

Manage appropriate access to applications, systems, and data.

Offer guidance and inform users of policies and procedures, including training as needed.

Implement security policies and protocols.

Utilize and maintain knowledge bases, white papers, FAQs, and vendor documentation.

Contribute to documentation of incidents, internal processes, procedures, and training manuals.

Assist in tracking and maintaining hardware and software inventory; interact with vendors.

May supervise a growing staff, including hiring, development, and performance management.

Required Skills and Experience

Oracle databases and application servers (e.g., Apache Tomcat).

Helpdesk ticketing systems (e.g., Atlassian Jira).

Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues.

Successful experience following established protocols and security procedures.

Effective communication and organizational skills in diverse environments.

Preferred Skills and Experience

Associate’s degree in computer or specialized technology.

Experience with CAD tools and PLM systems (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter).

VMware and virtual machine management.

Microsoft Office Product Suite – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio.

Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher (may be subject to a government background investigation).

Minimum Education and Experience
IT Support Specialist – Senior Support:

Associate Degree, 4+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. No required certifications.

IT Support Specialist – Intermediate Support:

General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or High School, 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. No required certifications.

Background Checks and Security Clearance
Employment will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies and the ability to obtain a government security clearance. Candidates must be U.S. citizens. A pre‑employment drug screen will also be required.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $46,400.00 – $74,000.00. Salary may be impacted by geographic differential.
