
PCMHI Staff Psychologist - Garner

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Responsibilities
Provides functional assessment, triage, brief intervention, and education for a wide range of mental health and behavioral medicine concerns on referral from primary care providers and allied PACT members.
Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others.
Provides evidence‑based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual and group psychotherapy.
Provides consultation to professional staff and community providers concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans.
Triages patients appropriately and efficiently to specialty mental health services.
Works under close supervision of a licensed psychologist.
Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients.
Complies with CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check‑out procedures.
Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the Service Chief (or designee) and facility Director.
Attends psychology staff meetings and complies with psychology peer‑review procedures.
May contribute to the establishment and maintenance of patient tracking and treatment outcome databases to enable ongoing program evaluation.
May analyze and interpret program evaluation data related to clinical or educational/training programs.
May serve on Medical Center, VISN, and/or National VA committees or task forces (with approval).
May represent Psychology/Mental Health programs in various workgroups and committees at the Medical Center.
May actively participate in leadership roles on local, state, and national professional organizations.
May represent the Medical Center or Psychology/Mental Health at professional organizations, community group events, or committees.
May engage in non‑funded or VA‑funded research per approval of the supervising psychologist and Chief Mental Health Service Line (and, if applicable, in a concurrent faculty position at an affiliated university).
May publish results in peer‑reviewed journals and present findings at scientific meetings.
Maintains courteous, respectful, and cooperative relationships with management, co‑workers, patients, and the general public.
Maintains productivity at the established level for the program.
Provides sensitivity to age‑developmental and cultural needs of patients, understanding the needs of adults aged 18–59 and senior adults 60+.
Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; does not support telework.
