Job Title: Polysomnographic Technologist
Location: Sleep Study - Cranford, NJ
Job Overview
The Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the Medical Director and the Administrative Director of Pulmonary & Sleep services to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders and can provide oversight of other sleep center staff.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
At least one-year experience as a sleep technologist
Preferred:
Certification to obtain or possession of the CCSH - Certification in Clinical Sleep Health
Certifications and Licenses Required
Current New Jersey State License as a Polysomnographic Technologist and/or Respiratory Therapist
Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Scheduling Requirements
Shift working, three nights a week 6:30pm-7am
Rotating shifts and weekends
Full-Time (FT)
Essential Functions
Comply with safety and infection control regulations
Perform routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation
Follow HIPAA and privacy policies
Respond to sleep patients procedural‑related inquiries by providing appropriate education utilizing sleep center specific protocols
Adhere to sleep center policies and procedures
Comply with professional standards of conduct
Assist the medical director, clinical director and/or manager in all aspects of sleep center operations
Perform sleep studies for pediatric patients (starting at 18 months and older), adults, and geriatric patients
Demonstrate proper placement of leads and wires with 10‑20 setup
Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot all sleep equipment, including pulse oximetry, transcutaneous monitoring, end‑tidal CO2 monitoring, and CPAP/BIPAP devices during acquisition of the sleep study
Titrate CPAP/BIPAP according to AASM guidelines
Document technician notes every half hour
Score sleep study according to AASM guidelines
Respond to patient requests for information
Complete all charges
Coordinate dictation, transcription, final report, archiving, filing, and mailing process for sleep studies
Maintain inventory control
Complete yearly CME requirements
Participate in Performance Improvement
Achieve inter‑scoring reliability equal or greater than 85 percent
Perform clerical work as needed, including scheduling, insurance authorization, calling patients to follow‑up
