Behavioral Health RN Requirements
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State (NY)
Minimum 1 year of experience in behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, or mental health nursing
BLS certification (American Heart Association) required
Experience with behavioral health assessments, care planning, and medication administration
Strong communication, de-escalation, and interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team (psychiatrists, social workers, therapists)
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care to individuals with behavioral health and psychiatric needs in an inpatient setting
Conduct behavioral health assessments, develop nursing care plans, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes
Administer and monitor medications; document patient responses and follow safety protocols
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and communicate changes in patient condition to the treatment team
Participate in treatment planning, psychoeducation, and discharge planning for psychiatric patients
Promote a safe, therapeutic environment using evidence-based de-escalation and safety practices
