Position Summary
The Department of Radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is recruiting a Clinical Instructor faculty appointment within the scope of training for a Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA). The RRA will provide advanced clinical support for diagnostic and interventional radiology services under the supervision of attending radiologists and in collaboration with nursing, technologists, and trainees. Core responsibilities include pre- and post-procedure patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, and support during clinic visits related to radiologic procedures or treatments. The RRA performs delegated radiologic procedures and image‑guided interventions as credentialed and approved, assists with procedural workflow, and ensures timely and accurate clinical documentation. The role requires effective communication of clinical findings and patient status to supervising radiologists and participation in multidisciplinary care coordination. Additionally, the RRA contributes to quality, safety, and performance‑improvement initiatives, supports patient‑centered care delivery, and engages in ongoing professional development. The position also supports departmental education efforts and continuous process improvement to advance clinical excellence within radiology services.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Graduate of a Master’s degree radiologist assistant program recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Certification as an RRA by the ARRT.

Clinical portfolio documenting a sufficient number of cases performed during the past 24 months.

Proof of maintenance of at least 50 Continuing Education Credits in accordance with ARRT certification every 2 years.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

Clinical Knowledge – imaging professional knowledge and clinical ability sufficient to evaluate and treat patients in one or more specialty areas as a radiologist assistant.

Communication – excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge – application of pathophysiology and diagnostic imaging, demonstrated skills in physical assessment, consultation, research, and teaching. Professional knowledge sufficient to perform comprehensive patient history, assess appropriateness of procedures, and assign protocols. Ability to maintain competency in skills and procedures.
