Medical Scribe - Ophthalmology

Job Description Summary
The department of Ophthalmology is seeking a qualified medical scribe. The scribe accompanies the physician or licensed provider into the exam room, documenting in the EMR all aspects of patient care to include chief complaint, history of presenting illness, physical exam and patient plan as directed by the provider.

Qualifications

High School Degree or equivalent

Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Scribe preferred

Job Duties

30% Accompany the physician into the exam room, documenting in the EMR all aspects of patient care (chief complaint, history of presenting illness, physical exam, patient plan) as directed by the provider.

25% During non-clinical time, pre‑chart for MUSC Storm Eye physicians for the following week’s patients scheduled in clinic.

25% Document physical examination findings and procedures as performed by the provider. Record the results of diagnostic imaging and laboratory studies as dictated by the provider.

20% Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
Continuous requirements: work indoors; possess good finger dexterity; maintain tactile sensory functions; maintain 20/40 vision corrected in one eye or with both; maintain good peripheral vision; maintain hearing acuity with correction.

Frequent requirements: perform job functions while standing/upright, sitting, walking/mobile; fully use both hands and arms; perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders; perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements; reach in all directions; see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance; match or discriminate between colors; determine distance and relationship between objects including depth perception; and hear/understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet.

Infrequent requirements: kneel/squat to perform job functions; perform pinching operations; lift and carry 15 lbs unassisted; lift objects up to 15 lbs from floor level to a height of 36 inches unassisted; push/pull objects up to 15 lbs unassisted.
