Mission of the Department of Endodontics
The mission is to provide education and conduct research in the biology of the dental pulp and the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases and injuries of the pulp and associated periradicular tissues.

Responsibilities

Provide chair side assistance to dentists by passing instruments, holding devices such as suction tubes, and cleaning patients’ mouths during and after specialty dental and root canal procedures.

Assist in the administration of local anesthetic agents.

Take patients' blood pressure and maintain their vital statistics.

Provide preoperative care to patients, preparing them for surgery by positioning them comfortably, applying topical anesthetics, and providing post-operative care and instructions.

Instruct graduate students and pre-doctoral dental students on taking digital radiographs, cone beam radiographs, and cone beam scans.

Confirm that instruments are sterilized, working properly, and organized for procedures and/or surgery.

Ensure that equipment used for dental procedures is sterilized and that areas are clean and ready to receive new patients.

Assist the front office in scheduling follow-up visits.

Career Levels & Requirements
Education & Experience (Intermediate)

Required: High school diploma or equivalent (HSED or GED).

Required: 1 year of assisting in applicable specialty dental assisting.

Licenses & Certificates (Intermediate)

Required: Indiana X-Ray License upon date of hire.

Preferred: Dental Assistant Certification upon date of hire.

Education & Experience (Foundational)

Required: Completion of a dental assisting training program or 6 months of dental assisting experience.

Licenses & Certificates (Foundational)

Required: Radiology license within 6 months from date of hire.

Physical Requirements
This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. The applicant must be able to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and discern between various objects and devices to position patients. Essential functions can be performed with or without an accommodation.

Compensation
$18.00 - $19.50 per hour based on experience.
