Overview
The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible for providing competent nursing care, employing the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The RN must adhere to standards of practice—including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation—as well as professional performance standards encompassing ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN must possess clinical knowledge and skills required by specific clinical areas. BSN or MSN preferred. The RN must meet and maintain specialty‑specific requirements:

Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire; Emergency Care ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year; Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara‑approved Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months; Women’s Care (Perinatal) – NRP within 6 months; Inpatient Pediatrics – PALS within 6 months; All Direct Care RN’s – BLS within 90 days of hire.
