The Opportunity

Tetra Tech is looking for a full-time Biologist to work in our Albuquerque, NM office.
Position Summary

In support of the Response, Assessment, and Evaluation Services (RAES) program, the selected candidate will:
Conduct field surveys to inventory and assess vegetation, wildlife, and wildlife habitat conditions primarily on or near the Navajo Nation. Possible surveys in other areas of the southwest or elsewhere in the country.
Provide environmental oversight and monitoring during construction to verify adherence to permit conditions, implementation of avoidance/mitigation measures, and to ensure habitat protection.
Assist in preparing biological assessments (BAs) and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with the Navajo Nation Department of Fish and Wildlife and other regulatory requirements. Support for other client BAs possible.
Perform preliminary site assessments (PA), site inspections (SI), removal site evaluations (RSE) and expanded site inspections (ESI) on sites with radionuclide and non-radioactive hazardous substances.
Essential Job Functions (Required)

Possess or have strong desire to learn and implement complex radiological monitoring techniques and site characterization studies.
Perform field work in remote rugged terrain.
Direct and implement Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM) 2 guidance.
Required Qualifications (Required)

Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, or a closely related field and 1-5 years of professional experience; OR Master’s degree in Ecology, Biology, or a closely related field and 1-2 years of professional experience.
Years of Experience: One (1) year minimum
Basic knowledge of biological resources such as bird, plant, and/or wildlife species of the southwest.
Ability to use field data tablets and GIS instruments.
Preferred Qualifications

Ability to identify species of local plants, birds and/or wildlife of the southwest is a plus.
Experience with abandoned mine sites.
Experience with construction or construction oversight.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Experience using computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.
Physical Requirements (Required)

Work outdoors in all weather conditions, both hot and cold.
Walk on uneven terrain.
Work in variable outdoor environments, packing heavy equipment, and excavations using hand tools.
Carry field equipment (35 to 40 pounds).
Don personal protective gear as needed.
Drive regularly; maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record; pass a motor vehicle record background check.
Work Environment/Environmental Factors (Required)

This position is primarily office work, however, occasionally (35% of the time) you will need to travel and perform fieldwork.
The field work is primarily in Arizona and New Mexico and may include other states.
A physical capacity for working outdoors, often in isolated remote areas, is needed.
Additional Information (Required)

Work schedule (days, hours): Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.
Overtime requirements: May be required during field work activities.
Night/weekend requirements: Periodic travel with overnight accommodation will include both evenings and weekends.
Work locations: Office or hybrid.
Travel requirements: 35%.
Other: This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company’s discretion.
