James Tool is expanding its machining team to support continued demand for
custom tooling, fixtures, and precision‑machine components
across multiple industries.
This role is critical in a
non‑production, high‑mix job shop environment , where flexibility, craftsmanship, and independent machining ability are essential.
The Work You’ll Be Doing
Program, set up, and operate
Prototrak 3‑axis CNC mills and/or lathes
Interpret
blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T
Machine low‑volume, high‑mix parts with precision and repeatability
Select tooling, set offsets, and verify workholding setups
Perform test runs and make adjustments to meet specifications
Hold tight tolerances and ensure part quality
Perform
first‑article and in‑process inspections
Adapt quickly to changing job priorities in a job shop setting
Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment

Prototrak CNC Mills & Lathes (3‑Axis)
Controls:
Prototrak Conversational Controls
CAM Software:
Mastercam (preferred)
Inspection Tools:
Calipers, micrometers, indicators, edge finders, parallels
Materials You’ll Work With
Aluminum
Steel (mild & alloy)
Stainless steel
Additional materials depending on job requirements
What We’re Looking For
Required:
3+ years of CNC machining experience (mills and/or lathes)
Experience with
Prototrak or conversational programming
Ability to
program, set up, and run machines independently
Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
Proficiency with precision measuring tools
Ability to work in a
job shop / non‑production environment
Strong attention to detail and adaptability
Preferred (Not Required):
Mastercam experience
Experience with custom tooling or fixture work
Multi‑axis machining exposure
