Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Step-Down Unit position requiring oncology/chemotherapy experience and a MI RN license for a 13-week travel contract.
Details
General Medical/Oncology Step-Down Unit (GMU) in a hospital setting
Patient population includes general medical and oncology step-down patients
Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-6, with chemo admits reducing assignment ratios accordingly
Requires administering chemotherapy via IV and starting IVs
Equipment used includes Welch Allyn vital sign towers and Sigma IV pumps
Epic EMR used for documentation
Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
Every other weekend required; weekends are assigned by the manager/scheduler with remaining days available for self-scheduling
Floating required to other med/surg areas including acute unit (AU) and ER for med/surg patient care
No on-call responsibilities
Requirements
Active MI RN license required
Current BLS certification (AHA) required
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
ONCC or ONS certification highly preferred; pending ONS will be accepted
ONC certification highly preferred
Minimum 2 years of PCU/Step-Down experience required
Oncology/chemotherapy experience highly preferred
Proficiency in IV chemotherapy administration and IV insertion required
Additional Information
Provides step-down level care to general medical and oncology patients, including chemotherapy administration
Charge RN is typically not in a patient assignment; support staff is available when ratios flex higher
Block scheduling may be accommodated with a specific request
Candidate must be available and have no time off during the first two weeks of the assignment
Any RTO requests made after offer acceptance must be discussed directly with the on-site manager
No RTO approved for the July 4th holiday
