Responsibilities

Assist the surgeon in performing operations safely and expeditiously.

Provide exposure, maintain hemostasis, and perform technical functions during surgery.

Set up sterile equipment, pull cases, and break down after procedures.

Handle instrumentation, equipment, and supply needs for all surgical procedures.

Provide wound retraction/exposure, positioning, aseptic practices, hemostasis and suturing as directed.

Perform delegated duties within scope of practice and contribute to overall plan of care.

Cover multiple complex specialties such as Robotics, Complex GI, Colorectal, Liver, Thoracic, and all types of Surgical Oncology.

Maintain competency in all required areas and self‑sufficient across facilities and surgeons.

Precept and coordinate resources as needed.

Be available for call across multiple specialties and facilities at requested hours.

Perform additional duties such as scrub technician, multi‑skilled tech, or other qualified roles as assigned.

Position Requirements

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Registration as a Surgical Assistant by Colorado Division of Registration (DORA) and current certification as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA) or American Board of Surgical Assistants. Current BLS Certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Education: Graduation from a school of surgical technology approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and completion of a First Assistant Program accredited through ARC/STSA, a collaborative effort of ASA, ACS, and SASA by CAAHEP.

Experience: Minimum of two years of experience as a Surgery Technician.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Advanced knowledge in the scrub role and demonstrated proficiency in multiple service lines/specialties. Expert specialized skills in multiple complex specialties including but not limited to Robotics, Complex GI, Colorectal, Liver, Thoracic and all types of Surgical Oncology. Demonstrates leadership qualities, appropriate judgement, problem‑solving skills, good organizational skills, professional communication, medication handling accountability, competence with Meditech and Microsoft Office, and adult learning principles.
