This full‑time, permanent position includes a two‑tier, in‑training program. The selected candidate will start at the Legal Assistant 2 classification, promote to Legal Assistant 3, and promote again to Paralegal 1 upon successful completion of the in‑training program curriculum. The position is based in Tumwater, Washington with our Labor and Personnel Division, and is not represented.

Base Pay Ranges
Paralegal 1: Range 51 55,836-75,108 (annual).
Legal Assistant 3: Range 46 49,428-66,372 (annual).
Legal Assistant 2: Range 44 47,100-63,252 (annual).
The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Promotional salaries at each stage will be based on the AGO Salary Determination Policy for non‑represented employees.
Additional Premium Pay
Dual Language Requirement Pay – Positions designated as requiring dual language skills receive a 5% premium pay.
Group C Assignment Pay
Legal Assistant 3s assigned to work in Thurston County will receive a 10% assignment pay.
In‑Training Program Details
The AGO Professional Staff In‑Training program is a formal on‑the‑job training program. The program enables the AGO to use defined training steps to train employees to work toward successfully performing the duties and responsibilities of the goal class.
In this posting, we are considering internal AGO LA1 staff who hold permanent status as an LA1 and are interested in learning on‑the‑job with the goal of moving into the Paralegal 1 role. You’ll gain the competencies and skills needed to successfully perform your duties while being supported by your supervisor, manager, and coworkers. Upon successful completion of your training and demonstrating knowledge of the position requirements, you will be promoted into the Paralegal 1 level.
Responsibilities
Analyze facts.
Compose documents and pleadings.
Schedule and/or interview witnesses.
Research legal issues and evaluate the facts of the cases.
Coordinate the preparation for litigation.
Track status of cases from summons to trial.
Draft legal notices.
Additional duties include
Monitoring mail and cases and routing to supervisors or attorneys.
Preparing briefs for administrative boards and courts according to rules.
Reviewing and preparing pleadings, correspondence for service and filing.
Drafting standard interrogatories, assisting in deposition summaries, case summaries, and discovery requests.
Providing travel and contract support to assigned attorneys.
Acting as specialist in various areas such as legislative bill analysis and event coordination.
Qualifications
You must hold permanent status as a Legal Assistant 1 in the AGO to be considered for this position. Other qualifications include proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Filevine, and strong research and writing skills.
