Summary
Incumbent is responsible for accomplishing journeyman level work in the trade of sheet metal work. Incumbent performs as the senior sheet metal worker for a specific construction project performed under P&H (Purchase & Hire) Authority, leading skilled laborers. Position is Temporary - Time-Limited - Intermittent - and provides no benefits.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Experience: A specific length of training and experience is not required - but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants will be rated according to the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
The application will be screened against the prescribed screen‑out element. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and eliminated. Eligible applicants are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision, Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading), Ability to use hand tools, power tools, etc. (Metal work), Dexterity (Assembly - Disassembly - Reassembly), Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials (Constructing, Repair, Forging), Layout and Pattern Development (Geometric Projection and Triangulation). Experience is considered in paid, unpaid, volunteer work through National Service programs or other organizations. Volunteer work that builds competencies can be credited. A full year of work is considered 35-40 hours per week. Part‑time experience is credited based on actual hours spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities and the number of hours per week spent in each position.
Duties
Incumbent performs installation and repair on all HVAC systems including DX systems, IDUs, ODUs, exhaust systems, chilled water systems, fan coil units, and hot water systems.
Incumbent possesses knowledge of control systems and their function/purpose.
Incumbent is responsible for the installation, operation, and repair of mechanically/digitally operated air conditioning systems consisting of multiple chillers.
Handles refrigerant pumps, condensing pumps, chilled water pumps, electrical and pneumatic controls, tempering and reheating coils, various sized zone air conditioning and heating coils operating through individual thermostats, and electrically operated air supply fans, exhaust fans, and electrically/pneumatically controlled temperature control systems via dual heating and cooling thermostats.
Repairs, modifies, and relocates special purpose air conditioning units and systems to provide critical climate conditions to various locations.
Responsible for balancing air and water throughout the system with minimal assistance.
Diagnoses problems and supplies workable solutions.
Qualified in sheet metal work, capable of layout, set‑up, and manufacturing of sheet metal duct systems.
Knows how HVAC systems and equipment are installed and operate.
Plans and lays out installation, modification, and repair of new and existing HVAC systems and equipment.
Interprets and applies building plans and blueprints, and uses shop mathematics to lay out angles, arcs, and circles.
Skilled in using sheet metal hand tools such as cutting, crimping, breaks, shears, and presses.
Has knowledge of infection control guidelines, procedures, and abatement technology solutions for minimizing the spread of particulates during construction activities within a Health Care Facility.
Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 0500-1330.
Physical: continual standing, bending, stooping, lifting, sitting, reaching; frequent pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying items up to 20 pounds, occasionally up to 40-50 pounds; work performed indoors and outdoors.
