Position Summary
The Respiratory Therapist, Durable Medical Equipment (DME) has a thorough understanding of all respiratory care modalities and is capable of making judgment decisions and recommendations to leaders and/or physicians pertaining to respiratory care modalities. The Respiratory Therapist, DME evaluates these techniques and reports their findings to the responsible leader or physician. Primary Accountabilities

Performs equipment setups in a timely and professional manner. Generally responsible for the setup of highly technical equipment such as BiPAP and CPAP units. Monitors ongoing function of equipment.

Assist with additional equipment setups as necessary such as Oxygen, Nebulizers, walkers, etc.

Provides patient education as an intricate part of the patient care activity according to the patient's need and Health First’s policy, frequently in patients' homes. Requires use of a personal vehicle with a valid driver's license.

Performs complete and professional patient assessments in accordance with Health First policies and procedures.

Maintains current knowledge of respiratory homecare techniques and relevant respiratory therapy concepts.

Completes all required paperwork as needed for billing.

Performs preventative maintenance or services such as cleaning, lubricating and adjusting equipment.

Remains available to serve as a back-up DME Techs or to assist the DME Techs in their mission.

Provides Oxygen education as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: None

Work Experience: One (1) year DME Respiratory experience.

Licensure: Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist licensure in the State of Florida.

Certification: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.

Background Screening: Must satisfy Florida of Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) Level 2 background screening.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Problem-solving skills.

Knowledgeable about Home Medical or Durable Medical Equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.

Work Experience: Three (3) years of DME Respiratory Therapy experience.

Physical Requirements

Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.

May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.

May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.

May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.

May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise.

May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.

Communicating with others to exchange information.

Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.

Workspace may vary from open to confined.

May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
