
Phlebotomist, FT Nights

Position Summary
The Phlebotomist is responsible for collection of specimens from patients and is cross‑trained to assist the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) when possible. The role includes assisting in specimen processing and filing, reporting to the Phlebotomy Lead and Lab Manager, and representing the laboratory to patients, physicians, and hospital staff. The phlebotomist must ensure quality of work, workflow efficiency, accurate testing, and full understanding of the mission, core values, and strategic goals of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital.
Compensation
Pay Rate Type: Hourly
Salary Range (Depending on Experience): $22.76 - $35.28
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Ensure phlebotomy supplies are restocked for all three shifts.
Perform all clerical duties.
Communicate appropriately with coworkers, hospital personnel, and physicians at all times.
Maintain laboratory coverage to provide adequate patient care, including last‑minute schedule changes as needed.
Collect samples from inpatients using standard venipuncture or skin puncture techniques according to established policies.
Inventory, report, and restock all phlebotomy testing supplies to ensure continuity of activities.
Deliver specimens to the lab as needed.
Enter data and maintain proficiency using the Lab Information System (LIS) computer systems.
Familiarize with manual backup procedures for the LIS.
Assist customers with LIS information.
Keep the workplace clean and neat.
Use proper telephone etiquette at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications/Experience: 6 months of experience required in blood specimen collection; 3 years preferred. Internal candidates with a current CA Certified Phlebotomy Technician License will be considered.
Special Skills/Knowledge: Proficient with LIS and computer applications; current CA Certified Phlebotomy Technician License; current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Health Care Providers from the American Heart Association.
Must complete the annual Workplace Violence Prevention Program/Certificate, per hospital policy, during initial training or orientation but within 30 days of hire or transfer.
