Registered Nurse (RN) PreOp
Registered Nurse in the Preoperative unit responsible for patient assessment, monitoring, and care before, during, and after surgery in accordance with facility and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA Health.
Assess patient’s preoperative status at intervals per policies: cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, hemodynamic, pain and comfort, mental status.
Interpret information from noninvasive and invasive monitors.
Describe the underlying pathophysiology of common disease processes.
Describe physiology associated with anesthesia techniques and surgical interventions.
Develop individualized perianesthesia plan of care, including:
Preparing for and protecting patient from injury caused by positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects.
Communicating patient status throughout the perianesthesia continuum.
Demonstrating safe operation of equipment and reporting unsafe situations.
Advocating safety concerns and protecting patient privacy.
Handling specimens and adhering to standard precautions.
Managing acute pain, administering medications safely (8 rights), and maintaining wound and tissue perfusion.
Maintaining normothermia and preventing infection.
Managing comorbid conditions and fluid balance.
Assessing patient education and involvement in decision making.
Providing age‑specific, culturally competent care within legal standards.
Complying with Universal Protocol, site validation, and time‑out policy.
Evaluate patient’s progress toward outcomes.
Transfer care as needed.
Provide accurate, concise hand‑off reports.
Delegate tasks per Nurse Practice Act and state regulations.
Document episodes of care accurately and legibly.
Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration with the perioperative team.
Serve as a member of multidisciplinary planning.
Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
Participate in performance appraisal process.
Use problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills.
Maintain required competencies and pursue professional growth.
Act as patient advocate and protect privacy and confidentiality.
Adhere to SCA and facility policies and procedures.
Participate in team meetings, trainings, and safety huddles.
Demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Preferred: 1+ year of ICU, ED, PACU, and/or medical/surgical nursing experience.
Current state licensure to practice in good standing.
Current BLS/BCLS, ACLS, and (when applicable) PALS certification within 90 days of employment.
Specialty certification in Perioperative or Perianesthesia Nursing preferred.
Pay: USD $35.00/Hr. – USD $37.00/Hr.
