Psychotherapist (Licensed Mental Health Therapist)

Lorenz Clinic, Minneapolis, MN, United States

Overview

At Lorenz Clinic, psychotherapy isn’t a product-- it’s an interpersonal process. We’re a mission-driven, clinician-led family psychology institute where systems thinking, reflective practice, and relational depth form the foundation of our work. We’ve chosen a path that centers integrity, intellectual rigor, and clinical maturity, rather than productivity quotas or algorithmic care.
We selectively hire full-time licensed therapists who want to work at depth, not on autopilot. Our team is composed of clinicians who approach complexity with humility, think systemically, and use the therapeutic relationship as a catalyst for meaningful change.
If you’re looking for more than checklists and caseloads, you may have found your next professional home.
About Lorenz Clinic

Lorenz Clinic is a clinician-led, post-graduate training institute focused on Family Psychology, grounded in honoring human complexity. Our mission is to heal the world one relationship at a time. We’re Minnesota’s first family psychology specialty clinic and the state’s first home for organized Post-Master’s Fellowships. We hire fewer than 5% of applicants and invest deeply in those we do.
Therapists who thrive here are relational by orientation and rigorous by training. We embed Reflective Practice into the core infrastructure of the clinic. Training is not a sideline but a lifeline, with roughly 40% of the clinical team engaged in supervision, teaching, or development work at any time. Our Clinician Wellness Roadmap supports fairness, autonomy, and professional autonomy, helping clinicians grow, reflect, and practice at the top of their craft.
The Role

Licensed psychotherapists serve in applied roles, providing diagnostic assessment, psychotherapy, and treatment planning to a diverse clientele across the lifespan. Clinicians practice within their areas of competence and specialty, with support for developing clinical interests over time. Our clinics are embedded in Main Street communities with a focus on improving behavioral health access. Over 43% of clients use Medicaid, and our sliding fee scale goes to zero. Despite client complexity, our no-show rate is under 10%, reflecting strong engagement practices and relational quality.
Reflective Practice, ongoing consultation, and clinician well-being are central. We run a Wellness Roadmap that is evidence-based and co-designed with staff, supporting manageable caseloads, fairness, autonomy, and relational support.
Key Responsibilities

As a Licensed Clinician, you will provide psychotherapy that accounts for human development, relational dynamics, and systemic context. Responsibilities include:
Deliver psychotherapy and diagnostic assessment within your clinical areas of competence
Develop treatment approaches reflecting relational, cultural, and developmental understanding
Engage in regular consultation, Grand Rounds, and reflective supervision
Participate in a learning-focused, feedback-rich clinical community
Maintain accurate, timely, and clinically meaningful documentation
Uphold Lorenz’s commitment to integrity, humility, and systems-based care
Other duties as assigned within a collaborative, clinician-led system
Qualifications and Requirements

We seek clinicians who combine clinical competence with humility, reflective capacity, systems thinking, and ongoing development. The most successful applicants are seasoned interventionists who remain curious learners.
Job Requirements
A master’s or doctoral degree in a mental health profession from an accredited program
Full, independent, unrestricted licensure as a mental health professional in Minnesota (LP, LMFT, LICSW, or LPCC). Pre-licensed therapists should consider Lorenz’s Post-Master’s Fellowship unless licensure is imminent within four months.
At least two years of post-master’s outpatient psychotherapy experience
The ability to approach psychotherapy from systemic, relational, and developmental perspectives
At least 2 years providing clinical supervision (preferred)
Formal training in child, couples, family therapy, relational/interpersonal, or contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapy (preferred)
Note for Post-Graduate, Pre-Licensed Applicants
If you’re a recent graduate pursuing licensure and excited about structured, scope-aligned counseling, apply. This posting is for licensed clinicians, but we occasionally fill related roles through our Post-Master’s Fellowship. Pre-licensed professionals will be considered under a separate title and pay structure. Indicate licensure status in your application to route materials to the appropriate stream.

Most clinicians earn about 100 hours per year of board-approved continuing education from simply showing up to work.
Compensation

The compensation range for this role is $75,000–$125,000, dependent on qualifications, program fit, and caseload. The range for master’s-level licensees is $75,000–$106,250; for licensed psychologists, $106,000–$125,000. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt, benefits-eligible, W2 role.
Candidates without independent licensure will be considered through our post-licensed pathway under the title Post-Master’s Fellow. The listed range applies to fully licensed clinicians.
Application Process

To apply, submit a cover letter and CV via the online job portal for your preferred location. A cover letter is required and should address: professional goals, commitment to the profession, and a narrative of psychotherapy experience. Applications without a cover letter will be considered incomplete.
Selection Criteria

We seek psychotherapists who are relationally oriented, systemically minded, developmentally attuned, and capable of interpersonal depth over time. Candidates are evaluated on clinical competence, ability to perform duties, potential impact, and alignment with the clinic’s Core Values and mission. We assess credentials and mission alignment, theory-science-practice integration, and the capacity to thrive in a reflective, values-driven culture.
Clinicians may apply to multiple programs: outpatient psychotherapy and intensive outpatient group psychotherapy (IOP). A blended caseload across programs may occur based on learning goals and competence. Individual cases are assigned based on preparation, goals, competencies, client fit, and community need. The clinic has a strong referral base and waitlist.
Individual & Cultural Diversity

Lorenz Clinic is committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce. We are an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration regardless of race, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability status, or other protected characteristics. Diversity is viewed as a professional competency applicable to all professionals.
Licensed psychologists should consider the Staff Psychologist role posted separately. Pre-licensed therapists should consider the Post-Master’s Fellowship. The posting includes many search terms for visibility and may reference multiple locations in Minnesota. The primary worksite is in suburban locations around Minneapolis with hybrid options depending on program needs.
