Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Athletic Trainer.

Role Overview
In this role, the successful candidate provides support and services as it relates to the Sports Orthopedic clinical and educational programs. Implement injury prevention strategies, provide emergency care and first aid to individuals who have sustained an athletic injury, evaluate athletic injuries, and implement medically prescribed therapeutic reconditioning programs in schools. Provide school‑sports coverage for contracted schools which may include middle school, high school, college/university, and club sports. Responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and community outreach education and prevention initiatives in alignment with the Departmental strategic plan and the institution’s mission. Assist the Senior Program Coordinator Athletic Trainer and Department Director in program development and overall compliance.

Job Responsibilities

Provides athletic training services for contracted school.

Performs initial on‑field assessment of acute injuries and illnesses that occur during games or practice, provides first‑aid and triage, monitors injuries/illnesses to coordinate evaluation and follow‑up, and assists athletes in implementing a home exercise program prescribed by a physician or other healthcare professional.

Follows proper medical practices, uses medical, social and psychological information to establish goals for athletes, reviews cases and confers with physicians and medical professionals when necessary, and maintains all equipment used during treatments.

Understands and properly implements the type of treatment required by each patient, monitors and assesses patient status to plan a course of treatment, provides proper documentation for all treatments, maintains work records and confidentiality of athletic injury/illness information, adheres to all HIPAA and FERPA guidelines, and defines and adheres to standardized nomenclature, measurement and reporting.

Assists schools or school districts with the implementation and yearly re‑evaluation of school athletic policies such as EAPs, concussion management and standing orders, and works in coordination with the CMO (if the school has one), school nurse and athletic director concerning the health and wellness of student athletes.

Provides advice to athletes, parents, and coaching staff regarding injury prevention, health and wellness, flexibility training, assists in the preparation, selection, and fitting of protective equipment and pre‑injury screening, and participates in pre‑season parent/coach/athlete meetings.

Provides off‑site clinical services and event coverage: evaluates and treats off‑site injuries, reports findings to the organization/school medical team, maintains documentation, and facilitates pre‑participation exams.

Reliably follows through with assignments on schedule, adheres to the work schedule, reports for event coverage and meetings at designated times, gives proper notice of absences and lateness, accepts policies and their modifications, and is willing to cover sporting events after hours if needed.

Community outreach and education liaison: works with the chief of primary care sports medicine, athletic trainer coordinator and department director to maintain existing relationships and develop new relationships with schools, universities, colleges, sports leagues and organizations.

Develops and conducts various educational programs for educational and sports organizations, acting as an extension of NYU Langone Sports Health through branding and name recognition.

Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.

Other responsibilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training from an accredited CAATE program.

Current and valid NYS Department of Education Athletic Training License.

Certification by the Athletic Training Board of Certification (BOC).

CPR and AED certification.

Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently with and communicate effectively with athletes, parents, coaching staff, school administrators, and other medical professionals.

Ability to effectively manage emergency situations relevant to the position.

Knowledge of growth and development principles over the lifespan.

Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, email, etc.).

Minimum 1–2 years of work‑related experience.

Required Licenses
Athletic Trainer.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree from a program in athletic training.

Five years of work‑related experience.

Certifications such as CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach), CSCCA, ACSM or equivalent.

Qualified candidates must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $53,294.21 – $68,250.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
