Job Title
Nurse Practitioner – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – Mount Sinai Hospital (Full Time, Night)

Responsibilities

Assess health status of patients and families through comprehensive health history and physical examination.

Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, laboratory examinations, and consults; prescribe medication regimens.

Interpret findings, adjust plan of care, and document in the patient’s medical record.

Educate and counsel patients, families, and staff in health promotion, disease prevention, and chronic illness management.

Consult with physicians per established policies and collaborate consistently within the healthcare team.

Begin referrals to specialty services and promote continuity of care.

Participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary conferences to improve care delivery.

Maintain patient confidentiality in all information management activities.

Review patient records with collaborating physicians at least quarterly when a collaborative practice agreement is in place.

Complete required Focused Professional Practice Proctoring (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring (OPPE) evaluations for credentialing.

Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to medical staff rules and hospital bylaws.

Professional Development

Participate in peer review, research studies, and knowledge‑update activities.

Engage in departmental and interdisciplinary committees influencing nursing practice and patient care policies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficient in history taking and physical assessment techniques.

Competent in specialty‑specific procedures and documentation per established standards.

Able to interpret and apply nursing research principles.

Strong organizational skills to manage and coordinate patient caseloads.

Effective communication, creative problem solving, critical thinking and leadership abilities.

Physical stamina and manual dexterity appropriate for neonatal care activities.

Work within a collaborative practice agreement or relationship as part of the care team.

Education Requirements
Master’s degree in Nursing or an approved supplemental NP certificate focused on neonatal or critical care. New York State licensure as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner by State or national association. Completion of required pharmacy component and instruction in NY and Federal prescription laws.

Experience Requirements
Minimum of 1 year of progressive NP experience in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. For NPs hired after June 1, 2019, National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing is required. Certification may be deferred for up to one year with approval.

Certifications

DEA certificate and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificates as required.

Collaborative Practice Agreement or Relation agreement with a physician for NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Compensation
Hourly rate of $84.59, subject to experience, education, and operational need. Salary range complies with New York City Law on Salary Transparency.
