Overview
The Network Systems Technician provides planning, design, architecture and support for the labs infrastructure network. This includes support of currently implemented technologies such as LAN, WAN, IDS, IPS, and new equipment for emerging requirements. The Systems Engineer evaluates products and provides recommendations for suitability within the IWSL's network environment. The Engineer supports Information Assurance projects throughout all phases of network operations. The position is not covered under the Service Contract Act, Davis Bacon Act, or union.
Responsibilities
Engineering
Plan, design, architect and support the IWSL’s infrastructure network.
Evaluate products and provide recommendations.
Plan, design, and implement various IA strategies and technologies, including encryptors, perimeter and host-based firewalls, virtual private networks (VPNs), intrusion detection systems, vulnerability assessment, and data analysis tools.
Configuration Management
Maintain documentation for all internal and external CM processes.
Document all network-related installations and activations.
Maintain maintenance posture for all equipment and software supporting network operations.
Non-ESSENTIAL Duties
May require occasional travel.
Other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Licensure
A network-level certification (e.g., Security+, CCNA) and a minimum of four (4) years of network experience.
Experience installing and operating personal computers and associated peripherals.
Experience with Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP/IP, IPX/SPX, NetBIOS, NetBEUI, SNMP, and DECNET.
Required DOD 8570 IAT 2 Certification in applicable Networking Computer disciplines at hiring and throughout the life of the assignment.
Must have or be able to obtain a DOD security clearance.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
The Technician should demonstrate supervisory capabilities, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly communicate problems and project status.

Physical conditions include exposure to typical weather, moderate noise levels, and the need to perform tasks such as walking, standing, and using hands.

Travel
May require some travel.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
DoD Secret or higher clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. U.S. citizenship required.
Additional Qualifying Factors
Must pass a pre‑employment drug screening and obtain acceptable reference and background check results.
