Job Summary
Operates and maintains peaking station units and auxiliary equipment including diesels, gas turbines, electrical equipment, instrumentation, distributed Control System (DCS), transformers, generators, pumps and motors. Takes personal responsibility to incorporate safe behavior into all activities and consistently complies with all established safety and environmental policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities
Perform all work required on the generating units and facilities, troubleshoot and work alone as needed at any generator location. Serve as a senior southern peaking technician, leading a crew of workers and contractors.
Oversee and report all activities at combustion turbine locations, including monitoring fuel levels and consumption, maintaining records on performance and maintenance, conducting tests, and reporting findings.
Coordinate and direct the work of other employees and contractors, demonstrating strong leadership skills, effective communication, and capacity to work well under stress.
Maintain continuity of service by performing maintenance, testing, and operation of peaking units in accordance with safe, environmentally compliant, economical and reliable practices.
Diagnose software and hardware faults in computer control systems and implement corrective actions.
Execute corrective and preventive maintenance activities, troubleshoot electrical systems, controls, and mechanical equipment.
Maintain written and computer‑based logs, records, work orders, monthly reports, fuel inventories, and record performance test computations.
Unload, store parts and supplies correctly at the plant.
Work overtime as required by the job classification.
Assist in developing procedures, implementing plant improvements and modifications.
Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean, safe working environment.
Execute additional tasks as directed by the Maintenance Manager or other supervisory personnel.
Prioritize daily activities, resolve problems, and execute responsibilities with limited guidance.
Handle a variety of technical service and support duties that are semi‑routine with some latitude subject to approval.
Assist in orienting and training employees on moderate to complex tasks.
Job Requirements
High School Diploma, technical/vocational degree or equivalent, 2–5 years of relevant experience in instrumentation, electrical, control system, and mechanical equipment.
Strong mechanical aptitude and an advanced understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity, and mathematics.
Must pass qualification tests before the position is awarded.
Must be able to walk, stoop, stand, climb, crawl, lift, and reach without restriction. Must not be color blind.
Experience with DCS programming and configuration.
Basic certifications/licenses and a valid state driver’s license.
