Job Summary
Independently uses assessment skills to activate patient care protocols and deliver care within the Tennessee paramedic scope of practice and the defined Vanderbilt paramedic scope of practice. Responsible for triage care in the field and in the Emergency Department, ensuring effective communication for safe and quality patient care during transport and handover.
Department Summary
LifeFlight Ground EMS began in 2011 with a single ambulance. It now operates a fleet of 21 ALS-equipped ground ambulances from five locations in Middle Tennessee (Nashville, Wilson County, Coffee County, Montgomery County, Bedford County). The primary focus is inter‑facility transfers and discharges from Vanderbilt‑affiliated medical facilities, with the ability to support non‑Vanderbilt facilities.
Shifts
Variable (12‑hour) shifts, including some nights, weekends, and holidays.
Key Responsibilities
Actively participate with other healthcare team members to provide direct patient care.
Transport patients via various modes while providing quality ALS and critical care management to all ages.
Respond to emergency requests within Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt‑sponsored, or other contracted events.
Use the problem‑solving model to independently resolve patient problems and follow through with the HCT to implement solutions.
Identify patient and unit problems, find solutions, and implement them.
Communicate patient handover effectively to the healthcare team.
Additional duties may be assigned.
Technical Capabilities
Ventilator Management (Novice) : Demonstrate sufficient fundamental proficiency in ventilator management under moderate difficulty conditions.
Critical Thinking (Novice) : Demonstrate clarity, accuracy, and sound evidence in task completion.
Airway Establishment (Novice) : Demonstrate sufficient fundamental proficiency in airway establishment.
Medication Management (Novice) : Demonstrate proficiency in managing medication regimes, reviewing histories, and identifying problems.
Assessing, Intervening & Stabilizing Patients (Novice) : Demonstrate sufficient proficiency in assessing and stabilizing patients under moderate difficulty.
Core Accountabilities
Perform routine tasks that impact team performance, occasionally requiring guidance.
Use discretion to solve routine problems.
Apply knowledge of standards, processes, and procedures relevant to the role.
Provide guidance to entry‑level coworkers.
