
Ground System Development Post-Masters Student

What You Will Do
The Space Data Science & Systems Group (ISR-3) at Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks a Post‑Master’s student to support our portfolio of space‑based programs. The successful candidate will join the Ground & Operational Software Engineering team, developing software and algorithms for the sustainment of ground elements of our space programs, working in a classified environment and demonstrating strong commitment to security.
Qualifications
2+ years of programming experience with C/C++, Rust, and/or Python
Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating systems
Experience with SVN, git, or mercurial
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with scientific teams
Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering science degree; completed within the past 3 years, GPA 3.0+ on a 4.0 scale
Not enrolled in a graduate PhD program
Desired Qualifications
4+ years of programming experience with C/C++ or Rust
Experience developing, testing, deploying, and iterating scientific algorithms
Experience designing and deploying modular and scalable applications
Experience with containers and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes)
Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Argo)
Experience with satellite sensors, systems, and programs
Experience developing formalized unit or integration test software
Eligibility
The position requires Q clearance. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents. Certain foreign nationals listed in the National Defense Authorization Act are prohibited from accessing facilities. The clearance requirement may limit eligibility for dual citizens.
