Overview
The Department of State Hospitals – Metropolitan is now accepting applications for multiple Full-Time, Permanent Psychiatric Technician positions. Under general supervision, incumbents administer care to forensic, LPS and medically fragile patients; assist in planning and evaluation of nursing care; provide a basic level of general behavioral and psychiatric nursing care; and are expected to facilitate the rehabilitation of forensic clients and patients. Candidates must have excellent organizational skills, ability to problem solve, and good communication skills. Experience with computer systems is desired. Qualities sought are the ability to work well with others, good mediation skills, and a commitment to helping others.
Candidates must be willing to work in any Unit/Program and any shift to meet the needs of the facility.
Responsibilities
Administer basic psychiatric and general nursing care to forensic, LPS and medically fragile patients. Assist in planning and evaluation of nursing care. Facilitate rehabilitation of forensic clients and patients. Demonstrate organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills; collaborate with team members.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a valid license to practice as a Psychiatric Technician issued by the BVNPTE. Applicants who are within four months of completing the Psychiatric Technician curriculum accredited by the BVNPTE will be admitted to the examination, but they must secure this license before they will be eligible for appointment.
Eligibility Examination:
To be considered for this Job Opportunity, applicants must have eligibility by way of: permanent civil service status, be reachable on an employment list, have transfer eligibility, or have reinstatement eligibility. If you do not have eligibility, you must take the exam.
