About the Opportunity
The client seeks an Instrumentation and Controls Technician in Hopewell Junction, East Fishkill, NY. In this role you will learn and eventually take ownership of all computerized control systems and their associated subsystems within the Central Utility Plant of the Facilities Organization supporting a semiconductor manufacturing facility.
Systems include High and Low Temperature Chilled Water, High Temperature Hot Water, Deionized Water, and Compressed Air systems. 98% of all systems are networked Modicon PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) which report into GE iFix SCADA (Supervisory, Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
Responsibilities
Enable remote alarming, monitoring, control, and reporting to facility teams and enhanced alarm and trending systems.
Troubleshoot PLCs, networks, and communications, and make necessary PLC logic changes to simplify and standardize processes.
Interface with Engineering on all system/equipment concerns and problems.
Perform preventive maintenance activities and visual inspection tours, documenting performance metrics on CUP equipment.
React to error messages on building and site systems and equipment, and recover from process and equipment interruptions.
Utilize computers to document and communicate system status for all site operation systems, including shift logs, to collaborate across all shifts.
Plan and implement all system upgrades as needed.
Train and lead new I&C Technicians.
Provide high-level status presentations to all levels of management.
Perform all activities safely and responsibly and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
Qualifications
Associate Degree.
2+ years of experience in programming and troubleshooting PLCs.
Strong understanding of programming, electrical interfacing, networking concepts, computer configurations, and HMI’s (Human Machine Interfaces).
Motivated self‑starter capable of working in a team environment with a focus on customer satisfaction.
Excellent communication skills and schedule flexibility; weekend coverage required.
Familiarity with LEAN tools to ensure continuous improvement, utilization, and cost savings.
Fluency in English (written and verbal).
Knowledge of equipment control systems, PLCs, single-loop controllers, SCADA, combustion boilers, refrigeration/chillers.
Ability to understand logic, sequencing, and programming.
Hands‑on and comfortable working in the field alongside operators and technicians.
Proficient with hand tools and Digital Multimeter (DMM).
Knowledge of Ethernet networks and communications.
Additional Information
Background check required upon offer of employment.
Must be able to perform shift work on an 8‑hour schedule.
Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds periodically throughout the shift for preventive maintenance and process issues.
Ability to perform work in a standing position for the majority of an 8‑hour shift (excluding breaks).
