
Forest Health Temporary Technician Crew Lead

Position Summary
This position will be primarily responsible for organizing and working as a field crew member on a hurricane recovery project during the summer. It will also involve working on field and lab research projects for Forest Health and Silviculture labs at the UGA Forest Health Lab on the UGA Tifton Campus. Tasks include organizing fieldwork days, taking precise field measurements, collecting samples, rating insect damage, data entry in Excel, and other assigned responsibilities. The role may require overnight travel and is an 8‑month position.
Duties & Responsibilities
Fieldwork – 50%
Lab work – 25%
Data entry – 25%
Education & Experience
Undergraduate degree, some graduate school coursework, or graduate degree. Experience leading or working on a field crew.
Knowledge & Skills
Natural resources and forestry knowledge preferred.
Familiarity with ARCGIS, Survey123, and Avenza (or ability to learn quickly).
Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.
Physical Demands
Work outdoors for extended periods in adverse weather conditions, including extreme humidity and heat, and possible encounters with stinging insects and wildlife such as snakes. Traverse uneven terrain through thick vegetation. Maintain high data quality collection under these conditions. Lift up to 40 lbs. Drive to field sites on unmaintained or dirt roads.
