
Construction Inspector

Role description
Arcadis is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Construction Management Team in Richmond, Virginia. The Construction Inspector will support municipal consulting firms on water, wastewater, and related infrastructure projects, ensuring quality assurance, compliance, and thorough documentation throughout construction.
Role accountabilities
Observe and inspect construction work performed by contractors, perform punch‑list inspections, review drawings and specifications and other technical documents, prepare detailed daily activity and progress reports/photos, and participate in project schedule and contractor invoice reviews.
Maintain quality‑assurance requirements and approach and monitor code compliance issues.
Inspect and determine deviations from general compliance with contract documents; clearly and professionally inform the contractor of required corrections.
Review submittals and other construction documents and recommend technical solutions.
Attend and participate in construction meetings, safety meetings/updates and project site coordination meetings.
Monitor and document contractor resource utilization (labor, materials, and equipment) for field changes, and time‑and‑material work, and assist with negotiation of basic field construction changes.
Verify equipment and materials installation for payment purposes.
Maintain payment‑quantity documentation.
Perform mathematical calculations as necessary during inspection activities.
While performing daily inspections, ensure Arcadis’ project safety guidelines are being met.
Some local travel may include project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, construction oversight, etc.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
5 years of water or wastewater facility construction experience.
Key Skills/Attributes
Identifying, analyzing, and providing innovative solutions to problems, high level of math aptitude, ability to multi‑task several priorities and possess solid time‑management skills, and proficiency in MS Office Suite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS SharePoint, Outlook). This position requires the employee to work year‑round in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of treatment plant and utility construction inspection experience; experience with civil/structural/mechanical/electrical construction inspection activities on small to larger sized infrastructure projects; ACI or NICET certifications; OSHA 10 Safety and Confined Space Entry Training; active participation in a regional or national professional association.
Benefits
Salary range: $85,000 – $100,000.
