The Role
Commodity Buyer/Production Planner Supervisor to join our team and support our customers, strengthen our business, and contribute to the long-term growth of Douglas Dynamics.
How You Will Contribute
Lead and mentor location-specific Commodity Buyer/Production Planner and Receiving Teams; represent the location as a Manufacturing Supervisor Team peer across locations to foster a 1-Team mindset.
Develop short- and long-term strategies aligned to CSI business objectives; measure internal and external KPIs to identify improvement opportunities and flag potential problems.
Document current state processes and share best practices for future state processes across locations.
Promote continuous learning of DDMS methodologies and tools, with a focus on Safety, Quality, and Delivery.
Assist in identifying, prioritizing, and executing cost-saving projects to meet annual goals.
Develop and monitor level-loaded production schedules; manage supply of raw materials and finished goods to sustain production performance.
Identify trends, inefficiencies, or constraints and collaborate with Operations on improvements that benefit the organization and customers.
Interface with Engineering, Global Sourcing & Supply, Marketing, Inside Sales, Finance, and Supply Chain Partners; collaborate externally with suppliers.
Hire and train new teammates; provide effective challenges and feedback for growth.
Education Requirements
Associate’s degree in business or related field or three years of related experience required.
Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
Leadership of a small team is a plus.
Experience and/or Training
3+ years in a Lean Manufacturing setting using DDMS (Toyota Production System) practices; hands-on OEM experience is a plus.
Strong understanding of Lean Operating Systems (5S, TPS Standard Work, JI, PS, Andon, MDI) and TPM/SMED, Pull Systems; capability to train and coach teams.
Experience with Level Loaded Daily Demand Production, Labor Planning, Budget Management, and Capacity Utilization.
Strategy Deployment & Continuous Improvement knowledge (Future State Planning, Value-Stream Mapping, Kaizen, etc.).
Licenses/Certificates
Licenses or certifications related to Supply Chain or Materials Management are a plus.
Other Skills
Digital toolset proficiency (MS Office 365: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access; Teams) and ability to develop process tools and presentations.
Workload management, delegation, prioritization, multi-tasking, and project management.
Executive presence, team engagement, communication, relationship-building, and effective feedback.
Travel
Travel required occasionally (1–2 offsite trips per year).
