Full Job Description:
Ocean Coast Electric seeks an experienced (5-10 years) Commercial Estimator to join our team in the Monroe Twp, NJ location. The Estimator is responsible for evaluating and securing leads, assessing bid specifications, plans, scope review, and contracts. The Estimator ensures that we are aware of everything required to accurately and successfully bid and be awarded the project. The Estimator will identify requirements for project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and provide information to the field team for kick off and successful implementation. The estimator will complete Change Orders as needed throughout the duration of the awarded projects. Experience in Commercial, Freezer, Manufacturing, and/or Industrial tenant fit out and ground up projects ranging from $100k to $10M is a must. The position is responsible for producing estimates and proposals for electrical power, lighting, and distribution systems for both plan & spec and Design/Build projects. Candidates should have strong computer skills and a strong understanding of Electrical Estimating and Electrical Code requirements.
Responsibilities:
Create accurate estimates, sketches, proposals, and budgets in a timely manner.
Ensures accurate, well written contracts are in place to protect company's interest and simultaneously maintain good a relationship with the client.
Draft/Track bid RFI’s and Change Orders throughout project duration.
Identify project opportunities and assess project risks. Notify team members.
Allocates proper resources for assigned projects.
Prepares and participates in the preparation and presentation of cost/budget information.
Generate qualified subcontractor bidder and vendor lists.
Shows creativity and resourcefulness to gain best quality and pricing from subcontractors.
Maintains communication with clients, and addresses any actions necessary for project award or negotiation.
All project documents should be uploaded and maintained. All projects should have accurate budgets in place. The Estimator needs to work coherently with the PM for the budget and schedule and project hand‑off.
Able to stay organized with all documents/drawings to easily transfer from the estimating phase to award phase with a project.
Acquire vendor pricing on specialty materials, equipment, and systems.
Periodically follow‑up with personnel to review cost trends, forecast (or bids) versus the final estimate.
Ensure estimate compliance with contract documents, plans and specifications, electrical codes, township requirements and company standards.
Maintain bid schedule for ongoing projects and new pricing requests.
Take an active role in the preparation, review and recommendation of contract scope changes and field related change orders.
Interface with customers and clients as it relates to the quality and timeliness of services and maintain strong relationships and industry contacts.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally required to commute to field locations.
Regular, predictable and reliable on‑site attendance is an essential function of the job.
Perform blueprint take‑off to create estimates. Turn estimates into proposals and send them to the client. Work directly with clients to close work.
Responsibilities will also include performing administrative tasks for the estimating department.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in electrical construction estimating and management.
5+ years preferred in Commercial, Freezer, Manufacturing and/or Industrial tenant fit‑out and ground up construction, on projects ranging from $100K to $10M.
Bachelor's Degree preferred, but not required.
Strong knowledge of construction estimating and take‑off software.
Proficient with Microsoft Suite, namely Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Must be a self‑starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Must have strong time management skills.
Must be client and safety focused, without exception.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing.
Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
Highly organized with the ability to prioritize the importance of multiple tasks.
Deadline and detail‑oriented.
Experience in hard‑bid contract work as well as conceptual estimating.
Working knowledge of ConEst estimating software and BlueBeam is preferred.
Critical thinking, problem solving, plan reading, estimating experience, strong arithmetic, and electrical code understanding.
