Position Purpose
Performs skilled industrial electrician duties on the journeyman level in the installation, repair, and maintenance of wastewater systems and equipment.

Essential Duties

Measures, cuts, installs, and assembles electrical conduit using appropriate tools and equipment.

Responsible for electrical and mechanical operations, including repairs at Racine Wastewater Treatment Plant, field maintenance garage, lift stations, and other utility sites.

Plans layout, installs, and repairs wiring, fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.

Installs or connects power cables to equipment, ensuring proper grounding.

Maintains and repairs AC‑DC control devices, motors, commutators, transformers, cranes, hoists, elevators, batteries, power tools, and appliances.

Wires switchboards, switchgears, transformers, meters, UPS, relays, and PLCs.

Tests continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components.

Plans new or modified installations to minimize power failure and provide future maintenance access while meeting specifications, local regulations, and codes.

Prepares sketches showing wiring locations and uses diagrams or blueprints to update specifications and locations.

Observes functioning of installed equipment to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.

Performs related duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Conditions of Employment

Work under moderately safe conditions with exposure to toxic agents, loud noises, damp, wet environments, and unpleasant odors.

Work year‑round in Wisconsin outdoor weather conditions.

Walk extensively, often carrying tools and supplies.

Stand for long periods of time.

Engage in strenuous physical activity, including stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, etc.

Lifts up to 50 pounds.

Good dexterity and physical condition; no fear of heights (work on ladders and scaffolds).

Enter and work in permitted confined spaces.

Pass respirator use requirements.

Use vehicles, hand and power tools, hoists, instrumentation, PPE, meters, and equipment for repair and installation of network, PLC, and other electronic systems.

Requirements

Journeyman electrician license with the State of Wisconsin.

Two years of progressive industrial experience.

Ability to obtain Supervising Electrician Certification from City Electrical Inspector within one year or hold a Master License.

Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office.

Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and good driving record.

Good electrical aptitude verified by past work experience.

Ability to use test equipment such as multimeter, megger, amp meter, etc.

Knowledge of generator operation and maintenance.

Motor control and logic control knowledge.

Experience with 24,900 / 4,160 volt switchgear and feeders.

Ability to test and diagnose failures in lighting and power circuits.

Understanding of alarm, communications, lighting, power systems, timing relays, and transformers.

Ability to connect circuits in main and distribution cabinets and boxes.

Ability to lay out jobs from prints and sketches, select materials, and maintain records, descriptions, blueprints, costs, and files.

Ability to solve moderate‑difficulty problems with minimum supervision and direction.

Preferred Qualifications

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources General Wastewater Operator’s License (desirable but not required).
