
Mechanical Engineer (Intern)

Responsibilities
Sabre Systems, LLC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to join our team at Lakehurst, NJ. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field to gain hands-on experience supporting engineering projects for Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). The selected candidate will work closely with experienced engineers and contribute to the design, analysis, and documentation of mechanical systems and components, with a strong focus on CAD modeling and design development.
Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies using Creo (Pro/ENGINEER) or similar CAD software such as Onshape
Create and modify 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation
Support engineering teams in the preparation and review of design layouts and assembly instructions
Participate in design reviews and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical challenges
Assist with prototype fabrication, iterative design testing, and troubleshooting to improve functionality
Conduct engineering research and apply findings to improve accessibility, usability, and performance of designs
Maintain accurate records of design changes and project documentation
Support process improvement initiatives and contribute to team meetings and presentations
Perform other duties as assigned by the engineering team
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field from an accredited college or university
Hands-on experience with CAD software such as Onshape, Creo, or similar tools, including 3D modeling and sketching
Demonstrated ability to design and prototype mechanical components, with experience iterating designs through testing and troubleshooting
Strong technical report writing and research skills
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with experience collaborating in team-based environments
Ability to work part-time during the academic year or full-time during the summer
10% Travel may be required
US Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with CAD-based design projects, including integration of mechanical and electrical components
Familiarity with engineering design principles, prototyping, and user-centered design methodologies
Active participation in engineering organizations such as ASME, SWE, or similar professional societies
Basic understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes
Interest in supporting defense or aerospace engineering projects
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Outlook

Compensation Statement
At Sabre Systems, LLC, compensation is based on factors such as location, qualifications, experience, and contract-specific requirements; however, final compensation will be determined by individual qualifications and applicable contract terms. The general salary range for this position is as follows: $20.00 - $25.00
