Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled
Experienced 12V Emergency Vehicle Technician
to join our team. With at least 3 years of direct industry experience, you will be a key player in our production line, responsible for the full-cycle upfitting of complex emergency response vehicles.
In this role, you aren't just following instructions; you are troubleshooting complex electrical systems, optimizing wire routing, and ensuring every build meets our high standards for durability and performance. You will work on a variety of platforms—from SUV command units to heavy-duty truck chassis—ensuring that those who serve our communities have the most reliable equipment possible.
Primary Responsibilities
System Integration:
Lead the installation and programming of advanced emergency lighting systems (Whelen, SoundOff, Federal Signal, etc.) and siren controllers.
Complex Wiring & Fabrication:
Design and execute clean, service-friendly wire looms; install power distribution centers, dual-battery systems, and high-output alternators.
Advanced Interior Upfitting:
Custom-fit command consoles, radio racks, and specialized storage cabinets; perform minor modifications or fabrication as needed for unique equipment mounts.
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting:
Use multimeters and diagnostic software to identify and resolve electrical "ghosts," parasitic draws, and RF interference issues.
Quality Control:
Perform final "punch-list" inspections on builds to ensure all equipment is synchronized and programmed to agency specifications.
Mentorship:
Provide guidance and technical support to entry-level installers to maintain shop efficiency and quality.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of
3 years
in emergency vehicle upfitting, car audio, or specialized 12V DC automotive electrical work.
Electrical Mastery:
Deep understanding of relays, circuit protection, grounding schemes, and CAN bus integration.
Tool Proficiency:
Expert-level use of all specialized hand and power tools, including soldering irons and terminal crimpers.
Efficiency:
Proven ability to manage a build timeline and meet production deadlines without compromising quality.
Professionalism:
Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean background check suitable for work with public safety agencies.
Preferred Skills
Certifications:
EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certification or MECP (Mobile Electronics Certified Professional) certification.
Programming:
Experience with manufacturer-specific software (e.g., Whelen Command, SoundOff Blueprint, or Federal Signal Convergence).
Communication:
Experience installing and tuning mobile radio systems and antennas.
