Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student‑loan payment reimbursement program. Candidates must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) – is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements
United States citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy).
Doctor of Medicine or equivalent medical degree.
Degree obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year the study was completed.
Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth (or the District of Columbia).
Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification.
Residency may be ACGME, AOA, or other approved residency meeting five years of verified U.S. practice.
Physicians in accredited residency programs who meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis.
PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they perform restricted duties under supervision.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Additional requirement: board certified or board‑eligible urologist.
Physical requirements: visual acuity, hearing, distinct speech, manual dexterity, ability to walk, stand, stoop, sit, bend, pull, and push for extended periods; transfer patients and objects; wear protective clothing when required.
Exposure to infected or potentially neuro‑psychiatric patients may occur; the incumbent must be mature, flexible, and able to work effectively under stress.
Must be able to perform CPR per ACLS/BLS protocols.
Duties
Open continuous announcement remaining open until June 22, 2026; initial cut‑off for referral April 21, 2026 with subsequent cut‑offs every 5 days.
Eligible applications after the cut‑off will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.

Pay: competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
Work schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with occasional Saturday clinic or weekday extended hour clinic.
Paid time off: 50‑55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, ~5 paid days for CME).
Retirement: traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5 % VA contribution.
Health insurance: federal medical, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care (many programs can be carried into retirement).
Licensure: one full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory.

Summary of Duties:
Provide specialist care for male and female urinary tract conditions and conditions affecting the male reproductive organs. Responsibilities include treating patients with kidney, adrenal gland, bladder, prostate, and external genitalia issues; diagnosing and treating urologic disorders; performing surgeries as needed; prescribing medications for erectile dysfunction, infertility, or ejaculation problems; providing urology consultations; directing nurses, residents, or other staff; documenting in electronic medical records; participating in process improvement, quality assurance, and committee activities; supervising residents; ensuring Joint Commission readiness and medication reconciliation; and instructing residents.
Clinical responsibilities: examining, diagnosing, and treating patient conditions and disorders of the genitourinary organs and tracts; documenting and reviewing patients' histories; ordering, performing, interpreting diagnostic tests; using specialized equipment such as X‑rays, fluoroscopes, and catheters; performing abdominal, pelvic, or retroperitoneal surgeries when necessary; treating lower urinary tract dysfunctions; prescribing antibiotics, antiseptics, or compresses for infections or injuries; prescribing erectile dysfunction or infertility medications; providing urology consultations or referrals; overseeing nursing staff; supervising residents; performing medication reconciliation.
Administrative responsibilities: document all medical information in an electronic medical record; participate in process improvement and quality assurance projects; participate in bi‑annual medical staff activity; provide general oversight of the operations of the ophthalmology clinic and of Urology residents and other VA NCHCS VISN 21 Sierra Pacific Network.
