Overview
Dental Assistant – This posting is open exclusively to current AL DOC incumbent employees. NaphCare is hiring a Dental Assistant to join our team of medical professionals in the Easterling Correctional Facility in Clio, Alabama. As a Correctional Dental Assistant, you will work alongside correctional officers and other dental professionals to provide dental care to the incarcerated individuals in residence. New grads are encouraged to apply – we'll train you in the exciting field of correctional healthcare!
Responsibilities
Prepare patients for dental procedures, assist patients during treatments, and maintain patient records while protecting the rights, dignity, and health of the patient population.
Coordinate dental services and assist Dentist with patient care, instruments, supplies, documentation, and supporting the function of the dental department.
Assist Dentist during treatment by providing instruments, materials, retraction, or suction.
Ensure all dental equipment is properly maintained, and the dental suite is clean and well stocked.
Sterilize and disinfect equipment and tools.
Assist in triage, dental sick call requests, schedule appointments, manage patient records, and perform other administrative tasks.
Explain dental procedures and oral hygiene practices to patients.
Take and develop x‑rays, assist with dental laboratory functions.
Qualifications
Completion of a one- or two-year dental assistant program at a vocational school or community college.
High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
Radiology Certification from the AZ State Board of Dental Examiners or from DANB.
Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
Display integrity, professionalism and adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility( s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
Physical Capabilities:
Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
