General Description
The Specialty Pharmacy Operations Coordinator is a pharmacist tasked with managing the day-to‑day specialty pharmacy operations at Prism Health North Texas Pharmacy. The Coordinator will be responsible for direct patient care activities and the oversight of these activities by other staff. This includes the ongoing development and implementation of specialty pharmacy programs, medication access programs, and other duties designated by the Director of Pharmacy and Chief Pharmacy Officer. The Coordinator will also work closely with medical providers and other medical staff to provide therapeutic recommendations for numerous disease states, including but not limited to Crohn’s Disease, Inflammatory Conditions, Hepatitis B and C, HIV/AIDS, Oncology, Psoriasis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Transplant. The Coordinator will also be tasked with medication dispensing on a weekly basis.

Responsibilities

Provide therapeutic recommendations involving Crohn’s Disease, Inflammatory Conditions, Hepatitis B and C, HIV/AIDS, Oncology, Psoriasis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Transplant to medical providers or other medical personnel.

Provide ongoing development, assessment and implementation of the pharmacy’s specialty programs.

Work with internal and external partners to improve workflow and maintain compliance, including software vendors.

Guide, structure and continually develop the pharmacy’s Patient Management Program.

Provide guidance for clinical operations and clinical decision making of the pharmacy.

Provide the organization with evidence and/or reasoning behind clinical decisions that impact patients or patient care.

Manage the day-to‑day operations of the Quality Management Program.

Actively participate in the pharmacy’s Quality Management Committee.

Facilitate management of the pharmacy’s specialty services in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy.

Provide consultations to patients to ensure their understanding of therapeutic regimens and specifics of administration, potential side effects, allergic precautions, etc.

Utilize skill and experience to effectively deliver specialized pharmaceutical therapy and services, including adherence programs, specialty disease management, patient management and immunization services.

Collaborate with case managers, behavioral health therapists and other supporting staff to ensure access and continual adherence to all patients’ medication regimens.

Understand and provide guidance on all necessary patient assistance services to ensure patients’ access to prescribed medications.

Be adherent with all state and federal pharmacy laws as it pertains to pharmacy practice.

Work with the pharmacy team to build in‑pharmacy specialty services, to improve health outcomes of patients and new patient referrals in a cost‑effective manner.

Collaborate with other Prism Health North Texas departments to help patients optimize their health and wellbeing.

Skills & Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, including attending meetings; training staff; utilizing a computer for data entry, documentation, processing, and research; and managing multiple priorities in a specialty pharmacy environment.

Demonstrated working knowledge of pharmaceuticals and applicable pharmacy practice standards, with the ability to deliver high‑quality pharmaceutical care to patients and providers.

Ability to verify the accuracy and clinical appropriateness of prescriptions processed and/or dispensed by pharmacy staff to ensure patient safety, regulatory compliance, and optimal therapeutic outcomes.

Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong attention to detail, including accuracy in spelling, numerical data, documentation, and prescription review.

Flexibility in work hours, as required to meet operational and patient care needs.

Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information effectively to small and large groups and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.

Preferred knowledge and experience in HIV/AIDS care, Hepatitis C, and LGBTQIA+ health.

Ability to travel between work sites on an as‑needed basis; must maintain reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance.

Possesses or is willing to obtain the education, accreditation, and certifications necessary to provide pharmaceutical care and specialty pharmacy services at Prism Health North Texas Pharmacy, including Medication Therapy Management (MTM), AAHIVP‑related services, consultation in specific disease states, and the administration of injectable agents and immunizations, as applicable to the role.

Education And Experience

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSPharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited school of pharmacy, or equivalent FPGEC (NABP) certification, is required.

Completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency or a minimum of three (3) years of pharmacist experience with direct patient care is required.

Unrestricted Texas pharmacist license in good standing, with authority to dispense medications, is required.

Three (3) to five (5) years of specialty pharmacy experience is preferred.

Experience or extensive knowledge in HIV/AIDS care, Hepatitis C, and LGBTQIA+ health is preferred.
