to support highway maintenance operations and promote a safety-first culture.
Your Role
Driving Safety Excellence Through Leadership and Expertise
As a Safety Coordinator, you will ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements while acting as a key resource to project leadership, field personnel, and subcontractors. You’ll support safety planning, conduct risk assessments, oversee training, and represent DOT during major incidents—fostering a positive and proactive safety culture.
What You Will Do
Ensure enforcement and compliance with all HSE regulations, including documentation, tracking, and statistical reporting for regulatory agencies.
Be present at all Level 3 or higher incidents/accidents and assist with incident management.
Support implementation of Webber’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System and maintain project-specific safety plans.
Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, workplace inspections, and hazard analyses.
Identify and resolve safety deficiencies and take proactive steps to minimize risks.
Provide training, safety orientations, toolbox talk content, and ongoing support to teams and subcontractors.
Oversee required safety training programs and help develop annual safety plans with the Project Manager.
Prepare HSE Incident Alerts and support communication of safety legislation updates.
Lead monthly safety meetings and facilitate the Site Safety Committee.
Investigate incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses, and close calls.
Maintain and update the Site-Specific Safety Management Plan, Security Plan, Training Plan, and other required project documents.
Ensure prompt reporting of all incidents or close calls per company procedures.
Maintain and update the project HSE Hazards Register.
Perform safety evaluations on vehicles, equipment, and systems.
Partner with the project management team to identify, implement, and verify corrective actions.
Promote a positive HSE culture centered on communication, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Who You Are
Valid driver’s license with a strong driving record (required).
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Safety Officer, Safety Coordinator, or similar HSE role.
Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT Work Zone guidelines, regulations, and incident response.
Ability to recognize hazards in both routine and non-routine tasks and take action to prevent injuries or incidents.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, coordination, and planning skills.
Ability to engage effectively with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
Experience with internal audits is a plus.
Work Zone Traffic Control, NIMS, and DOT Incident Commander certifications are a plus (training provided if not already held).
Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
