BESXAR is hiring: Network Engineer (CMCC) in washington
BESXAR, washington, dc, United States
Join to apply for the Network Engineer (CMCC) role at BESXAR .
Besxar Space Industries, Inc. (Besxar) is pioneering a new class of space-based manufacturing to overcome the limits of terrestrial semiconductor fabrication. The company builds reusable “Fabships” that harness the ultra-high vacuum (UHV) of space to produce ultra-pure substrates and precursor materials—essential building blocks for next-generation technologies. Manufacturing in space allows purity and yield levels impossible on Earth, effectively doubling chip cost-effectiveness for these critical applications.
Traditional chip factories face constraints in power, cooling, and materials. Besxar’s autonomous orbital manufacturing platforms overcome these barriers and return to Earth after each mission—not only delivering materials but also capturing insights to refine performance. Each cycle improves precision, efficiency, and reliability, making every subsequent orbital manufacturing run more effective.
Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Network Engineer with CMMC compliance expertise to manage our IT infrastructure. This role is critical to ensuring our network infrastructure is designed, implemented, and maintained in full compliance with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) framework. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with network security, federal cybersecurity regulations, and proven experience in supporting CMMC initiatives.
This position will work out of our headquarters in the historic Boilermaker Building in Washington, D.C—the former naval industrial facility where boilers for Navy ships in WWI and WWII were fabricated. The location honors America’s industrial heritage while serving as a hub for advanced, space-based manufacturing in the heart of the nation’s capital.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage secure and scalable network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, VPN) in accordance with CMMC requirements.
- Implement and maintain network security controls, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and access control lists (ACLs).
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing on network components to identify and mitigate risks.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs), network diagrams, and Policies and Procedures (P&Ps).
- Provide subject matter expertise on network security controls for CMMC maturity levels, particularly regarding the handling of Federal Contract Information (FCI) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
- Lead the network-related efforts for CMMC assessments and audits, including preparing evidence and responding to auditor requests.
- Ensure all CMMC artifacts are entered into eMASS and that the package is updated as our network evolves.
- Manage network configurations and security settings to ensure all devices and services meet CMMC standards.
- Troubleshoot network performance and connectivity issues, addressing security vulnerabilities as a top priority.
- Stay current with changes to the CMMC framework, NIST SP 800-171, and other relevant federal cybersecurity guidelines.

Successful candidate will have demonstrable experience with CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, and other federal compliance frameworks (such as FISMA, FedRAMP) in addition to experience with the development of SSPs, Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), and other CMMC-related documentation.
- Required technical skills:
- Proficiency with enterprise-level network hardware (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto).
- Strong knowledge of routing and switching protocols (TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP).
- Expertise in firewall management, VPN configuration, and secure network segmentation.
