Job Overview
The core contribution of this job is the safe operation and sustained care of Airgas Merchant Gas production facilities. The Production Professional ensures plant production, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and safety.
Job Duties
Develops and demonstrates basic skills for the process plant. Collaborates with and learns from more senior technicians while advancing through learning activities.
Contribute to Time‑Out learning reviews, document incidents, retrieve Airgas and site‑specific operating procedures, incident/injury reporting, etc. in the document management software, Intelex, becoming familiar with the work order process and partnering in minor maintenance activities.
Acquire knowledge and abilities in all plant operations including processes and equipment and becoming familiar with site‑specific action plans.
Support on‑site contractors, vendors, guests, or visitors to ensure site‑specific training requirements are met and documented, upholding Hold Harmless & Insurance Policies and Procedures and performing administrative function responsibilities as coordinated with the Plant Manager.
Demonstrate a shared commitment to performing job duties in compliance with all local and federal governmental regulations (FDA, OSHA, EPA, DOT, cGMP, etc.) and all company policies and procedures, including Management of Change (MOC’s), Pre‑Startup Safety Review (PPSR’s), and Qualified Integrators and Resellers (QIR’s).
Build alignment with national and local product scheduling to meet customer needs and ensuring customer product delivery requirements, pertinent documentation and affiliated reporting requirements are completed on time and with the highest standard of quality.
Dedicated commitment to company policies, safety guidelines, and procedural standards, as well as fostering a culture of safety together by being safety minded and modeling good safety practices and growing through the Qualification and Training program in company electronic training systems.
Completion of the Airgas Safety Pledge and becoming familiar with the requirements as well as completing introductory Health, Safety, Environmental and Social (HSES) training.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Knowledgeable in plant Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens and/or control stations.
Ability to operate the plant in steady state
ormal operation and knows who to contact and what to do in the event of an emergency or unusual conditions.
Ability to monitor and make operating adjustments to optimize efficiency.
Ability to communicate with both written and spoken English at the 12th grade level.
Basic understanding of Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&IDs) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s).
Familiar with basic plant operation: taking rounds, loading trucks, conducting water tests and shift turnover.
Familiar with site Emergency Action Plan.
Mechanically inclined.
Valid U.S. employment authorization and no need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree desirable.
0 to 6 months of related operations experience preferred.
Technical training or equivalent experience preferred.
Physical Demands
Willing to work rotating shifts.
Ability to climb and work from elevated platforms up to 140 feet for monthly technical readings.
May be required to be on call and share “On‑call” responsibilities with the Facility Manager.
Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes/boots, ear protection, and possible respirator protection.
Must lift 60 lbs.
Willing to travel as needed for training or support of other sites.
Follow policies and procedures for vacation scheduling, floating holidays, and personal days off.
Fill in for vacations and emergency shift relief coverage as required.
Work Environment
Minimal regional travel.
Moderate overnight travel for training.
Comfortable working in an outdoor industrial environment with varying weather and temperature extremes.
Reliable transportation required.
Visitation to various Airgas and customer sites with varying environments and accessibility.
