The Shop Clerk performs a variety of tasks to support the administrative duties of the shop, including parts ordering, receiving, stocking, inventory management, and parts pick-up and delivery. The role also involves supporting the Shop Manager with projects and daily operational needs as directed via oral or written work orders.

Essential Job Duties

Research, order, receive, and issue parts, materials, equipment, and supplies from multiple vendors.

Maintain an accurate inventory using the computerized inventory control system.

Label and stock shelves, verifying correct locations and storage.

Verify outages of the on‑hand parts inventory.

Complete cycle counts and adjust inventory levels as necessary.

Monitor the frequency of parts usage and make necessary recommendations.

Prepare core returns and parts for return to the vendor.

Maintain records of servicing operations such as work orders and daily status reports.

Assist in the completion of Monthly Inventory Jobs.

Complete required paperwork using fleet maintenance software for vehicle repairs, documenting parts usage and accounting for repair times.

Stock and maintain service trucks as instructed by Manager.

Assist in overall cleanliness of the shop.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Scope Of Responsibility
Support shop operations through accurate parts ordering, inventory management, and administrative recordkeeping. Ensure materials and supplies are available to support timely repairs, maintain inventory accuracy, and assist the Shop Manager with assigned projects and daily operational needs while adhering to safety and cleanliness standards.

Knowledge And Skill Requirements

Valid driver’s license.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Willingness to learn computer tracking software.

Willingness to maintain a clean work environment.

Ability to work in all weather conditions.

Education & Experience

A GED or high school diploma is required.

Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience – inventory/parts management preferred.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Handling heavy tools and parts, sometimes lifting up to 70 pounds.

Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and working in awkward positions.

Fine motor skills for handling small parts and tools.

Typical work in garages or workshops, which may be noisy, have unpleasant odors, and limited ventilation.

Exposure to chemicals, oils, and other hazardous substances.

Often required to wear protective gear, such as gloves and safety glasses.

May be required to lift up to 75 pounds.
