Primary Duties

Performs tasks associated with mail processing and distribution.

Sorts and collates incoming mail for distribution and dispatches outgoing mail.

Places mail in proper buckets or tubs for dissemination.

Receives outgoing mail and applies correct postage.

Maintains postage records and updates filing, inventory, mailing and database systems.

Additional Responsibilities

Perform x‑ray scan using an x‑ray machine to scan all mail and packages for security of customers if required by contract. If required on site, pull bags to be sent at the end of the day.

Follow HAZMAT procedures for handling potentially hazardous mail.

Process unidentifiable mail by opening and reading mail so appropriate distribution can be completed.

Process machinable mail (folding, inserting, sealing, and opening) as needed.

Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.

One‑year experience in a work‑related field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to perform routine tasks on special class mail as well as routine and repetitive tasks for long periods with minimum supervision.

Must be able to stand, reach, and walk for long periods of time.

Ability to make minor decisions regarding mail issues or questions.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Good reading and writing skills.

Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers, multiply, and divide by 10s and 100s.

Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight, volume, and distance.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office software and an accountable mail tracking system. Basic typing skills.

Physical Demands
This position involves sitting, standing, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
