What impact you’ll make: GE’s Greenville Gas Turbine Maintenance Technician Apprentice Program combines both academic studies and on‑the‑job training to develop the fundamentals required to become a skilled Maintenance Technician with GE Power.
Program Summary
Specialized apprentice program combining on‑the‑job training with academic coursework
Apprentices are paid for on‑the‑job training
Ongoing assessments conducted at 6‑month intervals to validate program effectiveness and individual skill progression
Opportunity to develop technical knowledge in AC/DC circuits, PLCs, robotics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and other maintenance‑related disciplines
Hands‑on training in troubleshooting, repair, preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and safe operation of production equipment
Development in both independent work and team‑based manufacturing support
What You’ll Do
Safely perform simple to complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs on a variety of precision production machinery and equipment while adhering to company, state, and federal safety regulations
Learn basic machine operation, including CNC M‑codes for manual manipulation of machine functions to assist in troubleshooting without an operator present
Troubleshoot, repair, service, install/uninstall, move, level, and align a variety of production machinery and equipment
Troubleshoot equipment using electrical controls such as robotics, programmable logic controllers, and computer numerical controls
Efficiently utilize Microsoft Office tools and accurately enter work order data into the Maintenance Management System (Maximo) for reporting and trending
Demonstrate accurate use of precision machinist measuring tools and maintenance test equipment associated with evaluating function and repair of production machinery and facility equipment
Operate material‑moving equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, genie‑booms, and bridge, jib, and gantry cranes
Safely and effectively utilize mechanical hand tools and machinist shop equipment such as mills, grinders, lathes, and tooling
Execute preventative and predictive maintenance procedures safely and efficiently
Demonstrate ownership of safety, quality, and productivity in support of plant goals and objectives
Work independently and in a team environment while assisting other craft members and operations to ensure equipment is ready to meet production schedules
Participate in team activities including Human Resources initiatives, Problem Solving, 5S, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing continuous improvement efforts
Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Successful completion of an accredited community college entrance exam
Ability to maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA throughout the program
Ability to earn a 3.0 or higher in core classes such as AC/DC circuits, PLC, robotics, hydraulics, and pneumatics
Ability and willingness to work normal operating hours such as 1st shift (6:45 AM–2:45 PM), 2nd shift (2:45 PM–10:45 PM), or 3rd shift (10:45 PM–6:45 AM)
Willingness to work overtime or weekend shifts as required by business needs
Ability to perform other assigned duties as required
Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in industrial maintenance
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to accurately use Microsoft Office tools and maintenance management systems such as Maximo
Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Ability to operate or learn to operate material‑moving equipment and maintenance shop tools
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform work while standing a minimum of 7 hours per day
Ability to frequently carry up to 40 lb
Ability to perform repetitive motion tasks daily
Ability to climb stairs and ladders when necessary
Ability to work above or below floor level and in confined spaces
Pay Rate
The pay for this position is $32.56 per hour. This position is also eligible for a shift premium when working an off shift, such as 2nd or 3rd shift, with an additional $1.00 per hour on top of base pay.
