This position is responsible for providing installation, repair, and scheduled/preventative maintenance service on a wide variety of complex medical instrumentation and computer-based medical systems. The position primarily focuses on (but is not limited to) life-support and other high-risk medical equipment, including: Operating Room, Anesthesia, ICU, Neurology, Respiratory Therapy, ventilators and associated pulmonary equipment, networked Patient Monitoring (wired and wireless), Ultrasound, and general biomedical equipment and systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
Associate's degree in Biomedical or Electronics Technology; OR completion of the Department of Defense Biomedical Equipment Technician training program; OR two (2) years of training as a biomedical or electronic technician, may be substituted for the educational or training requirement.
Seven (7) years of work experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician, preferably in an acute-care facility.
Experience with high-modality non-imaging equipment (e.g., anesthesia machines, ventilators, heart-lung machines) is essential.
Electronic technician skills include electronic troubleshooting, system troubleshooting, the ability to read electronic schematics, and perform electronic and electromechanical assembly and repair.
Knowledge of biomedical instrumentation, including computerized medical systems and computer/medical device networking.
Information Technology skills focused on networking (e.g. IP addressing, firewalls).
Knowledge of physiology to a sufficient level as required to understand the equipment being repaired and maintained.
Ability to communicate with staff and vendors regarding equipment issues with both verbal and written communication methods.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Biomedical Technician (CBET)
Manufacturer-specific training on critical (e.g. anesthesia machines, ventilators, heart-lung machines) is highly desired.
Experience repairing Philips monitoring equipment, operating room equipment, and other complex computerized medical devices.
Familiarity with healthcare practices, as well as university policies and procedures.

Department Overview
The Clinical Engineering Department provides a wide scope of services, including: medical equipment planning, pre-purchase product evaluation, integration with IT systems, installation, and repair and maintenance services to the UC Davis Health (UCDH), including its primary care network (PCN) clinics, and Shriners Hospital for Children, Northern California. In addition to repair and maintenance on most medical devices, we also provide services to the following specialty areas: medical imaging, radiation therapy, respiratory therapy, dialysis, anesthesiology, operating room, IT integration with medical devices, and ICU equipment.
