Project Overview
Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers.
Job Summary
Civil Field Engineer will report to the Area Field Engineer (Undergrounds) and assist the construction team in the technical aspects of the civil, structural, and undergrounds scope. The candidate will provide direct support to superintendents and craft professionals, including, but not limited to, work package creation and maintenance, quality control, quantity verifications, material take‑offs, material verifications, design change coordination, and general problem solving – all in support of meeting project cost and time schedules. Future positions may be available in structural concrete, structural steel and architectural finishes. Candidate should have a working knowledge of concrete operations, the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Codes and Standards, and OSHA Excavation Safety Standards. Candidate should be able to proficiently work in high‑paced environments and manage change while upholding Bechtel Safety and Quality standards.
Major Responsibilities
Collaborate with engineering teams to address constructability and design challenges related to commodity installations and work sequencing.
Provide comprehensive field engineering support to superintendents and project personnel, ensuring adherence to cost and schedule objectives.
Develop work plans, perform material take‑offs, create material requisitions, perform and document quality control inspections, report installation progress, and resolve design and construction conflicts related to the installation and testing of civil/structural commodities.
Perform civil field engineering activities including inspections, audits, and planning to support excavation and backfill, installation of formwork, rebar, concrete, precast structures and paving.
Assure procedural compliance for work being completed in the field.
Review specifications, purchase orders, subcontracts, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data to assist and advise on site.
Oversee, interface, and coordinate with subcontractors and subcontractor work efforts. Assist in the management of subcontract changes.
Coordinate with survey as needed to support construction work fronts.
Write technical change documents to document non‑conformances or cover design changes as needed.
Education And Experience Requirements
Required a University Hire with 1-2 years of experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge And Skills
5+ years of progressive civil related construction/craft experience, civil engineering, and/or civil field engineering experience.
Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk‑downs which may require extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
Must be able to complete and pass a pre‑employment drug screen. Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
An understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes, including Standard Work Process Procedures, is preferred.
Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Excellent communication and problem‑solving ability.
