Mechanical Project Designer | Columbia, SC
IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Project Designer in Columbia, SC, to support the planning, design, and delivery of mechanical building systems. In this role, you'll contribute to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system design and analysis while coordinating with clients and internal teams to deliver code‑compliant solutions. You'll also support project planning efforts—including budgeting, scheduling, quality control, and construction administration—as needed.
Principal Responsibilities
Design and analyze mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
Prepare and coordinate design documents (drawings, specifications, and supporting calculations) in alignment with project requirements and applicable codes.
Select and evaluate equipment and system solutions appropriate to the project scope and performance goals.
Coordinate with internal disciplines and external partners to support integrated project delivery.
Communicate with clients and project stakeholders to support requirements gathering, design development, and issue resolution.
Support project planning activities such as budgeting, scheduling, and work planning to help meet project deliverables.
Perform quality control checks and support review/coordination of documents prior to issue.
Provide construction administration support, including responses to RFIs/submittals and incorporation of design revisions.
Conduct site observations as required and document field findings and follow‑up actions.
Assist with mentoring/training and day‑to‑day technical support for project team members, as applicable.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5‑6 years of experience.
OR an associate degree and/or BIM certificate with 9‑10 years of experience.
Technical analysis capability and strong attention to detail.
Proficiency with design software and BIM workflows.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with clients and project teams.
Ability to mentor/support others as needed.
Ability to travel up to 15%.
