Position Overview
Summer Intern in the Transportation Department at BNSF Railway. Provides hands‑on immersion in logistics, scheduling, and safety management within a 24x7 operations environment.

Work Information
Location: Belen, NM; Chicago, IL; Denver, CO; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX; Kansas City, KS; Lincoln, NE; Minneapolis, MN; San Bernardino, CA; Vancouver, WA; Whitefish, MT.

Start date: 06/01/2026. Positions: 21. Salary: $5,000 per month.

Full‑time (40 hrs/week) with on‑call, overtime, nights, alternate shifts, weekends, and holidays. Travel and relocation required for the summer.

Training
Two‑day orientation in Fort Worth, Texas, followed by project support and field training at an assigned location.

Key Responsibilities

Learn about and support the operating logistics of a fast‑paced railroad in assigned division.

Assist supervisors in managing train crews and terminal operations.

Work on specific logistics projects in collaboration with other operating departments.

Participate in a mixed indoor office and outdoor safety‑sensitive environment; wear required PPE.

Basic Qualifications

At least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the United States.

No requirement for BNSF assistance for immigration status, irrespective of current or future status.

Ability to distinguish colors red, blue, green, yellow, clear light and to see at night; hearing auditory signals with training.

Capability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, in all weather conditions, climb ladders, navigate uneven surfaces; willing to travel up to 25% of the time.

Willingness to relocate anywhere on the BNSF Railway operating system and travel as required.

Pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, business, communications, technical, or a related program from an accredited university.

Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.

No more than three (3) years of professional work experience excluding internships, part‑time jobs, or coursework.

Reliable transportation to and from the assigned BNSF location during the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior internship or less than 3 years of work experience in engineering, supply chain, business, logistics, or related field.

Leadership experience in campus, community, or extracurricular organization.
